Height: 6’1” | Weight: 180 lbs. | Bats: Right | Throws: Right |
Fastball: Sits up to 97. Arm side run. True plus offering. Thrower of fastball rather than pitcher with it, needs to refine location to maximize effectiveness.
Change: 85-88 MPH. Far too firm an offering currently, rarely used. Plenty to like in potential, but a raw offering needing plenty of refinement.
Slider: Big variety in velo, 70s is slurvy, low-80s is better version. Excellent, sharp break when at best. Arm bend leads to inconsistent release and spin.
Delivery/Mechanics: True 3/4 with arm bend. Elbow gets out in front at times leaving plenty of durability concern. Elbow leading also limits command, too often missing high arm-side. Athletic kid, strong body, uses legs well but can get more from lower half.
Summary: Once considered a two-way prospect and would get the chance to be should he go to college, a Texas commit. He has some high enough to talk about him as a first round option, he is most likely a round two guy. Needs plenty of ironing out the mechanics and approach as a pitcher needed. The big arm and questionable mechanics scream reliever currently, but there is more than enough athleticism to keep optimistic the adjustments will be made to stay a starter. Upside of a number three starter, big league downside of quality reliver. |
