Hit: Good bat to ball although hips can drift and open early and the hands do lag at times. When body stays in sync the hands can be really quick to the zone and has shown plus bat speed. . Not a player comp but visual comp: has some Mookie Betts in swing. Hit tool currently lightest tool.https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js |
Power: Easy power, plus tool despite thin frame. Hit batting practice home run 420 ft and 105 off bat in Tropicana Field at PG National. Ball really jumps both in BP and in game. Swing is line drive swing but plenty of home runs in bat. TON of projection with plus to better raw. |
Run: Average to better currently, frame suggests it should be able to remain average long term. |
Arm: Plenty of arm strength for left side. Enough to play third if ever outgrows short. Borderline plus. |
Glove: Smooth and loose actions, no positional concern with glove. Range would be only thing that prevents him from sticking at short long term but likely to be able to stick. Has seen time at all four positions in dirt and looks comfortable at all four. Overall above-average fielder. |
Other: Florida State commit. Will still be 17 on draft day. |
Summary: A long and lean shortstop with plus power and smooth actions in the field is an easy profile to love. The hit tool is the lone concern but there is plenty of potential in the hit tool too. Calming some of the actions at the plate and keeping the body in sync should be able to lift hit to at least average without sacrificing much power. Frame has plenty of projection but without much concern about losing the athleticism. Late first round to early second round type pick. |
