2024 MLB Draft: Levi Sterling, RHP, Notre Dame HS

Player: Levi Sterling
School: Notre Dame HS (CA)                                                        Position(s): RHP
Height: 6’4″                       Weight: 190 lbs.                       Bats: Right                        Throws: Right
Pitches:
Fastball: 91-94, Plenty of sink and run. Shape allows pitch to play well above velo. Above average future grade.
Slider: 84-86, Sweeper shape, some sharpness to it. Average to better.
Curve: 78-81, True plus potential. Spots well, sharp breaker, easily best offering.
Change: 83-84, Plenty of fade, not afraid to double up, flashes plus but average more likely.
Delivery/Mechanics: Low 3/4 slot with some head and shoulder whip at times. Athletic body but doesn’t always finish delivery currently. Projectable frame and plenty of looseness in delivery, should be able to handle starting workload and improve command.
Other: Texas Commit. Quality SS prospect but future is on mound. https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Summary: Sterling would be a draftable prospect if he was purely a position player, but the future is undoubtably on the mound. Nothing he throws is straight and is already comfortable pitching backwards, he is one of the top prep arms in the class. He has a real four pitch mix that all grade out with better than average potential, and he has plenty of repeatability and athleticism in his delivery, although there are some moments of inconsistency that need to be ironed out. Add to all that the fact he won’t even turn 18 until September, making him among the youngest players in the draft, there is immense upside here. The current stuff is on the fringes of a first round talent, but the potential could easily lead to his name being called in the middle of round one come July.
