| Summary: The long and lean frame of Schaefer leaves a ton of projection here, although there is some concern he outgrows shortstop. If he does have to move off short, he has plenty of arm to shift over to third and be a solid defender there. There was a ton of improvement between 2023 and 2024 here especially in his bat speed and zone awareness. He has the makings of being an on base machine with some real pop to go with it. He does have a wide base at the plate, but the hands are direct to the zone allowing him to really punish fastballs. The hit tool is more fringe average, but that zone awareness allows him to make the most of his power when he does swing, as he makes plenty of contact in the zone. | |||||||||||
