| Summary: At the plate, Phillips has plenty of raw power for Middle Tennessee State, but that isn’t where his future is. His future is on the mound where he was one of the biggest risers after Fall Ball this past year. He showed more velo, now running his fastball up to 97, although the shape is not currently one that will miss many bats. He features a sharp slider into the mid-80s that has good spin rates and is proving to be rough for hitters to pick up on. The changeup flashes really well but he has not used it enough in games to really have a current feel for it. There is also a curve that could very well get scrapped at the next level as it really isn’t much of a weapon. Overall, the draft-eligible sophomore is incredibly raw but also holds a ton of projectable traits that a team willing to be patient with could get themselves a massive upside gem come July. | |||||||||||
