2027 MLB Draft: Mason Russell, LHP, Arizona

Player: Mason Russell
School: ArizonaPosition(s): LHP
Height: 6′Weight: 195 lbs.Bats: SwitchThrows: Left
Summary: While his collegiate debut did not go to plan, giving up 5 earned runs and only recording a single out, but the upside here is massive and he is starting to show it. He has a real four pitch mix with a fastball that sits in the low-90s but can get up to 95 from the left side. He can really snap off an impressive high-70s curveball and has a mid-80s cutting slider. The changeup is the distant fourth pitch and is quite inconsistent, but it has flashed a solid look and should be a pitch that develops enough to keep a starter’s arsenal. Russell’s command is inconsistent, pounding the zone at times, while at others he loses his release point and feel for the zone. Making it to campus was a big plus for him, as he should develop really well in Tucson and has first round upside.
