| Summary: It is hard not to love the combination of pure stuff, projectability, and pitchability from Herst. At the Prep Baseball All American Game in Miami, he would vary his delivery, going slide step out of the windup at times just to keep the hitters off balance, and he did so without sacrificing his arm mechanics. He is long and lean with a low 3/4 slot and gets excellent extension allowing his fastball to play up. Early in the summer he sat 88-90 but got up to 93 before the summer ended and has been sitting 87-90 while popping the occasional 1 and two this spring. His best pitch is a low-80s changeup that features real fade with good arm speed and gets whiffs. He has a two plane breaking ball that can get slurvy in the mid-70s that he overthrows too often, but it flashes well. The command overall could use some cleaning up as he does pull to the glove side and already works from the first base side of the rubber, but this should come in time as he fills out and gains more control of his long limbs. I expect there to be a big jump overall with Herst before next July that will rocket him up draft boards. | |||||||||||
