Summary: The University of Maryland is not a school that would be one of the first ones you mention in terms of schools churning out big leaguers, but they have a long history of doing just that. From the one and only Moonlight Graham way back in the day to recent years with Lamonte Wade Jr., Brandon Lowe, and Matt Shaw, and the latest with a good shot of following in the footsteps of those others is Hacopian. He has athletic actions at short, although there is a good chance he ends up moving over to third base full time as a pro where those actions combined with a plus arm could make him a quality fielder at the hot corner. At the plate he has a polished approach and swing with incredible bat speed, although it does lead to him being quite pull happy. He does an excellent job spoiling the pitcher’s best pitches and extending at bats, but does end up putting too many of those defensive hacks in play for soft contact. Turning the advanced eye for the zone into and advanced eye for pitches he can do damage will be key for taking him from a day one type prospect to a top ten pick.
