| Summary: Coming into the Spring, Hammond’s future was on the mound, but there were scouts who were in the camp that his future was at the plate. Hammond has transitioned into the bullpen for his high school team, closing out games with his power arsenal, but the bat has taken a massive step forward, as has his defense. Those who thought his future was at the plate had him tabbed as a 3B, but the improvements he has made defensively now has him as a guy who should be given a shot to stick at short. He is reasonably agile and has solid range but the best defensive tool is the double plus arm. At the plate he flirts with plus power, although the hit tool is still the question despite the improvements. He is not one who chases much, showing a good approach and avoids strikeouts quite well, but the bat path does put some limit on the ability to fully tap into that massive raw power as he gets on top of the ball a bit too much. That all said, he has established himself as a potential day one bat come July. | |||||||||||
