| Summary: Transferring to Austin from Indiana State, Spencer had established himself as a high quality collegiate reliever, but there were a ton of questions about his ability to start, especially as a Friday night guy in the SEC. He quickly put those concerns to bed and turned himself into a quality MLB Draft prospect in the process. His season has seemingly come to a premature end though, as he will be undergoing shoulder surgery which brings up even more questions ahead of the draft. His fastball has heavy sink that sits in the mid-90s but has been up to 98 and shows run at times too. He pairs that with a slider in the upper-80s with quality two plane depth that is a genuine plus offering. He has added a changeup since getting to Texas, and that has been quite effective while flashing above-average potential. All of this comes out of a lower 3/4 slot with some funk in the delivery, making everything even more difficult to pick up. There are absolutely still reliever concerns as he does not possess the track record as a starter, there is now durability concern with him handling a starter’s workload, and the command is still inconsistent, but the stuff is real. | |||||||||||
