2025 MLB Draft: Cade Obermueller, LHP, Iowa

Summary: Obermueller is a guy who has been steadily climbing my draft ranks every year. I had him ranked 244 coming out of City High in Iowa 2022, he came in ranked 174 for me last year as a draft eligible sophomore and heard his name called by the Texas Rangers in the 19th round. Now in his third draft cycle, this will likely be his last one as he has been a dominant ace for a solid Iowa squad in 2025. He works purely out of the stretch from a closed setup and high leg kick, he fires with a long and loose arm out of a low 3/4 slot nearing sidearm. The fastball sits in the low 90s but can get up to 95 and has plenty of ride. He has a sweeping slider in the mid 80s that has plenty of spin. His changeup is firm, getting into the high 80s at times, but it does have nice dive to it when he does break it out. There is still plenty of projection left in the frame and there is a higher leverage reliever floor if he doesn’t stick as a starter long term, but I think he will.
