| Summary: In high school, Tinney split reps at catcher with UCLA starting backstop Cashel Dugger. The two are a rare duo of high school teammates in the same class to go on to be power conference starting catchers, and Tinney will do so at a new school in 2026. Transferring from Notre Dame to Texas, he is the biggest incoming transfer for the Longhorns, although their biggest outgoing transfer oddly enough is Will Gasparino, joining Dugger with the Bruins. Tinney is an excellent defensive catcher, regularly posting pop times sub-2.00 with a plus arm and advanced footwork allowing him to catch and throw quickly. At the plate, there is a ton of bat speed and plus raw power he gets to in game relatively well, but is a very pull heavy hitter. He can struggle against spin and that is something to watch especially in the SEC, but even the biggest fastballs run the risk of being driven well beyond the left field wall with him in the box. | |||||||||||
