| Summary: Weiss is an uncomfortable at bat especially for lefties thanks to the very low 3/4 slot after stepping slightly closed creating plenty of cross body action. He has a shorter arm stroke, so it is nearly impossible to pick up the arm early and the added deception allows all his pitches to play up a tick. That stuff is good even without the deception though, as he sits 91-94 with heavy sink. His slider is a lower velo pitch working 74-79 and his body can slow some and the arm slot moves up slightly making it a pitch advanced hitters can pick up currently, but that will be ironed out while on campus. In terms of shape, it has all the makings of an above average offering that can play plus once he gets the mechanics of it locked in. He has the makings of a changeup in the low 80s that could project as fringe average which he will need to make the most of to stick as a starter. I have seen the command get away from him at times and struggle to bring it back in, but overall he tends to have solid command in larger sample sizes. | |||||||||||
