| Summary: Schmidt is a projectable lefthander with athleticism, an easy operation, and a delivery that stays under control. He works mostly from a three-quarter slot that can drift a bit lower at times, producing a fastball that sits 93–96 and has touched 97. The pitch shows plenty of life, consistently missing bats and he commands it well enough to pound the zone while controlling the run game. The slider ranges from 76–82 with varying shapes, flashing both sweep and late bite. Though usage has been inconsistent, it projects as an above-average pitch and can tunnel off the fastball effectively. The changeup sits firm in the upper-80s but carries fading life, flashing plus against righthanded hitters when sequenced correctly. Each of the secondaries has shown enough to profile alongside the fastball in a complete starter’s arsenal. At just 17 years old on draft day as he reclassified from 2027, Schmidt’s combination of velocity, feel for three pitches, and low-pulse demeanor point to significant upside as the loose arm and athletic frame leave room for further growth .With added strength and continued refinement of his breaking ball, Schmidt projects as a polished young southpaw capable of holding starter value at the next level. | |||||||||||
