Summary:
Koeninger embodies the definition of a two-way phenom — a premium athlete with lightning in both his bat and his arm. At the plate, he shows elite bat speed and the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields. His hands work quick and short through the zone, producing violent but balanced contact that translates into legitimate in-game power. There’s some swing-and-miss baked in due to his aggression, but the bat speed, strength, and pitch recognition continue to tighten, giving him a chance to be a true middle-of-the-order threat. Defensively, the actions are electric: fluid feet, fast transfers, and a plus arm that easily plays from the left side of the infield.

On the mound, Koeninger brings the same explosiveness. The fastball sits comfortably in the mid-90s and has reached 98 with arm-side run and life through the zone. He mixes two distinct breaking balls — a sharper, bullet-shaped slider in the low-80s and a 12–6 curveball with real bite that flashes plus — while the changeup rounds out a full starter’s mix. The delivery is short and quick from a slightly closed setup, producing deception and carry despite the effort in the finish. When he’s synced up, the arsenal overwhelms hitters from either side of the plate.

The total package is one of the loudest in the class: a legitimate shortstop with plus power potential and a frontline-quality arm capable of reaching the upper-90s. Whether his long-term home is on the mound or in the box, Koeninger’s combination of athleticism, intensity, and elite tools gives him top-five overall upside and the makings of a cornerstone talent.
