Summary:
This is one of the more unique scenarios we have seen. Already tested against elite competition, Sato separated himself this summer by missing bats against the U.S. collegiate national team with a combination of fastball life and a true bat-killing splitter. The fastball works comfortably into the upper-90s, showing ride through the zone and the ability to challenge hitters upstairs, while the splitter plays as a legitimate separator with late dive and deception that holds up against advanced bats. That pairing alone gives him a weaponized foundation few amateur arms — domestic or international — can match.

The delivery is athletic and repeatable, coming from a three-quarters slot with loose arm speed, a high leg kick, and a drop-and-drive move that creates extension without excessive effort. He mixes a slider with some two-plane action, though it currently sits behind the fastball–splitter combo and will need refinement to become a consistent third look. Command can wander within outings, particularly with fastball shape, but the overall strike-throwing and feel for sequencing are advanced for his age and experience level.

The next phase will be critical. With plans to move to the United States in 2026, pitch in summer ball, and enter college ahead of the 2027 draft, Sato will quickly find out how his stuff plays with a heavier workload and more frequent exposure. There’s still physical projection remaining as he is an undersized righty, and the arm speed, splitter quality, and proven performance against top American hitters already put him on early-round radars. If the body holds and the slider sharpens, he has a realistic path to emerging as one of the most intriguing arms in the 2027 class.
