| Summary: Connor Capece has been one of the better catchers in the Big East for three years running, with a defense-leading profile setting up for a high-floor draft candidacy. Make no mistake, he can hit, but a potent combination of effective receiving, blocking, and throwing makes his profile all the better. Hitting-wise, Capece uses a short, compact stroke to great effect. There isn’t a ton of power in his game, but he can spray the ball around the field with ease. His ability to put the ball in play is impressive, and he has a decent amount of speed for a catcher. He did struggle a little bit during his time in the Cape Cod League for the Y-D Red Sox, but seemed to grow into himself as a hitter as the summer went on. Defensively, Capece stands out as an above-average defender behind the dish. He is extremely comfortable in a knee-down stance, and is athletic enough to keep the ball in front of him while controlling the running game. He has a cannon of an arm, and is very accurate from behind the plate as well. | |||||||||||
