Summary:
An ultra-long, wiry frame with significant room left to fill out gives LaFavor a physical projection profile that few prep arms can match. A whippy arm action and extension that approaches the high end of the scale make the velocity play up considerably to a hitter’s eyes, and the fastball has already touched the mid-90s while sitting low-90s in regular starts — the frame still carries meaningful weight to add, and the arm speed gives every reason to believe the velocity continues climbing as the body matures.
The slider is the secondary with the most long-term upside, showing tight rotation and sharp lateral break at its best. A lower arm slot helps generate the shape, which is a mechanical note worth monitoring as advanced hitters tend to pick up on slot variations more easily — repeating the delivery consistently across all offerings is the priority that will determine how reliable the breaking ball becomes. A changeup with dynamic fade gives him a complementary weapon, also produced from a dropped arm slot, and continued experience and consistency would push it toward a more significant weapon.

The back-end starter ceiling is grounded in the extreme physical projection and the arm speed already present — a strong front leg block and advanced trunk rotation give the delivery a foundation that should become more efficient as he matures into his frame. If the velocity continues to climb and the secondary mix becomes more consistently repeatable, the profile carries early-round helium that few arms in Iowa can claim.
