Summary:
Baseball runs in the family for Lodise — his cousin Alex, a shortstop in the Braves system, carved a similar path from a small college into a Power 4 program before also getting drafted early, and Kyle followed close behind, breaking out at a Division II program in Georgia before a transfer bumped his profile into an early Day Two selection.

The bat is fringy at this stage. There have been flashes of a more advanced hit tool — quiet hands, some feel for using the whole field — but the swing-and-miss has shown up more than expected in the pro track record, including real trouble handling spin down and away, and the bat-to-ball skill hasn’t shown up consistently enough yet to call this a true hit-tool profile. The power is modest and mostly a bonus rather than a carrying tool, with occasional surprising contact for the frame but nothing that changes the offensive equation on its own.

Where he earns his keep is everywhere else. He’s a plus runner with clean actions and a quick exchange, and he plays a smart, heads-up game on the bases that’s produced a strong track record of stolen-base success. The defensive tools play at shortstop in flashes, but the more realistic long-term fit is second base or a true multi-position utility role, where the actions, hands, and instincts all play up without needing to answer the range and arm questions a true shortstop profile demands.

The floor here is a versatile bench piece who moves around the infield capably and adds value on the bases — the offensive tools are fringy enough that an everyday role isn’t the likely outcome, but a smart, well-rounded utility profile with real speed and defensive versatility gives him a legitimate path to a big league role.
