| Summary: Kircher’s calling card is the fastball. It sits 93-95 and touches 99, carries through the top of the zone, and moves a lot. He starts from a closed position and strides across his body. The breaker is a hard pitch in the mid-to-upper 80s with sharp action when it’s on, but it’s inconsistent, and he isn’t locating it in the zone with any regularity yet. He doesn’t have a real complement beyond those two pitches. The delivery is the development question. The arm action is long, he lacks extension, and the ball comes out from near his ear, so the arm and legs aren’t in sync. The results have lagged what the arsenal suggests, and the mechanics are a large part of the reason. He projects as a reliever more than a starter. The fastball and the hard breaker play in short stints. A starting role would require more repeatable mechanics, a breaking ball he can locate in the zone, and a usable third pitch, which makes that path the longer shot. | |||||||||||
