| Summary: Lowery is a right-handed hitter with a body that’s all explosiveness. He has long legs, wide shoulders, and obvious strength, and his hips fire quickly and hard, driving the barrel through the zone ahead of the ball. His bat speed is among the fastest around, and he pulls the ball with authority. He’s patient and picky, rarely chasing, and he takes a lot of walks. Swing-and-miss is his biggest risk. He whiffs on strikes, especially fastballs above his hands, and his swing can get long. The force he swings with means some of those misses will stay in his game, but his bat speed and raw power make that tradeoff reasonable. He’s a double-plus runner, and his body is already filled out enough that more muscle would cost him athleticism, so his speed may not improve. In center field he covers ground boldly and gets to nearly everything, though he goes all out on every ball and needs to learn when to ease up. The arm is strong, and he’s thrown in the low 90s off the mound. Second base is also a possible spot, which adds versatility. Some scouts may be concerned about his build. The power and the speed together are compelling. If his feel for the game develops alongside his athleticism, he has star-level upside. | |||||||||||
