2027 MLB Draft: Drake McClurg, OF, Center Grove (IN)

Player: Drake McClurg
School: Center Grove (IN)Position(s): OF
Height: 5’11”Weight: 180 lbs.Bats: SwitchThrows: Right
Summary:
McClurg is a switch-hitter who profiles at the top of a lineup, where his speed, patience, and on-base ability lead the way. His swing is quick and compact from both sides of the plate, and neither side lags behind the other. He chooses his pitches well, and when he decides to swing at a strike he almost always makes contact. He rarely strikes out, he walks often, and his steals add pressure that can lead defenses to mistakes.

Power is limited but trending up. He hits mostly to the gaps, with a few home runs, and more pop has shown up recently. He still hits too many ground balls to produce much impact. His speed is his best weapon on the bases, and quick starts out of the box let him turn singles into extra bases. He’s a plus runner.

In center field, his speed and first step make him a natural fit for the position. His size and stride cost him some range, so he has to work for it, and he still covers about as much ground as a taller center fielder would. All three outfield spots are options for him.

The bat is built on patience, contact, and speed, with power an area that’s still growing. If more of his ground balls turn into line drives and fly balls, his offensive value rises. The Texas A&M commit will be 19 on draft day meaning he would be a draft eligible sophomore if he makes it to campus under the current draft rules.
