| Summary: A late riser in the 2022 MLB draft ranks after a great spring at Tompkins HS in Texas, LaViolette found himself on campus in College Station. He made an immediate impact, launching 21 home runs and showing impressive base running skills for his size by stealing 18 bags. In 2024 he hit 29 long balls, and improved his average to above .300. There are definitely some swing and miss concerns in the bat, but he has an advanced approach at the plate that resulted in a 19% walk rate a season ago. Coming out of high school, there was real concern about the length in the bat and questions about how it would play against high velo arms. While the bat plane still has plenty of loop in it, which helps create the loft and turned him into one of the premier power bats in college baseball, he has improved his hand position in his load which allows him to get to the zone much quicker and will likely settle in to an average hit tool, with double plus power. He has always had a quality arm, flirting with 90 MPH on the bump in high school, that will be more than enough to play right if he has to move off center. In center, he moves well and has solid reads but he will never be more than average at the position. While he made a highlight reel grab in Omaha a season ago, his long term spot will likely be right field, where he could actually turn into a very good fielder at the position. | |||||||||||
