Summary: Long been the top prep arm in the class, Hernandez attacks batters from a low 3/4 slot. The arm is loose and the velo comes easy, while the frame has a ton of projection left. The fastball sits 93-95 with some late life and hit triple digits at Area Codes this summer. His best pitch is actually his changeup which is an easy plus offering and has the upside of double plus thanks to it’s heavy dip and arm side fade. He has two breaking balls, the best being a hammer curve with a high spin rate that gets plenty of swing and miss. The slider is a pitcher he added in the past year, not showing it in 2023 but breaking it out a good amount during the 2024 showcase circuit and it certainly plays. If it wasn’t for the fact he has so much upside on the mound he would still be a draft prospect at the plate thanks to elite exit velos and plenty of hit tool as well. Had he been in the draft a year ago (not a crazy thought as he will be 19 on draft day and Sophomore eligible if he were to somehow make it to Vanderbilt) he likely would have been the top prep arm in the class.
