| Summary: Let’s start with the negative with Phelps, there are real defensive questions. He has seen some time at third, though he likely finds himself in the outfield. The range and instincts aren’t enough for center, the arm might be enough for right, but ultimately he is probably going to find himself in left putting extra emphasis on the bat. Luckily, he has more than enough bat! The power is special thanks to his incredible bat speed and strong body. When he really gets into one he launches some of the most majestic moonshots in all of college baseball. He is a better pure hitter than he gets credit for, striking out in less than 10% of his plate appearances a season ago, although he doesn’t draw walks, only taking the free pass a little over 6% of the time. While he only stole two bags a season ago, he does have solid speed and good instincts on the bases, so he can probably steal 20 bags as a pro. The draft eligible sophomore may have taken a back seat to Charlie Condon a season ago, but he will be a star for the Bulldogs this season.
