| Summary: While he will never be confused for a big time homer threat, Kilen did have a power surge of sorts a season ago and really put up some impressive exit velocities and extra base numbers. He does expand the zone too much, but the pure bat-to-ball skills are some of the best in all of college baseball. The swing is short and quick to the zone allowing him to really control the bat head and fight off even the best offerings until he gets something he can do some damage with. He is no burner but he has enough speed to keep the pitcher honest when on the bases, and enough range to be able to stick at short. The body doesn’t appear to be one that will ever outgrow the position, although some feel a move over to second may be in the future, I think the instincts at short and arm will do just fine and he will be able to stick there long term. He now joins a team that is looking to repeat as National Champions, and moves to a ballpark that is very hitter friendly, so there will be plenty of eyes, but also a ton of opportunities too. | |||||||||||
