| Summary: Want to start an argument in the scouting community? Stand firm on de Jong being either a future pitcher or position player. He has legit upside on both sides of the ball and could certainly be a guy announced as a two way player at the draft. At the plate he has plenty of strength in the frame and really drives the ball well giving him plenty of power upside. Defensively he is a third baseman as he has already outgrown short and there is some concern he would have to move to a corner outfield spot or even first, but he is a solid defender at third currently. I like the upside on the mound best where he comes from a 3/4 slot with quick, controlled actions. He has solid pitchability to go with loud stuff, including a running fastball that has been up to 95. His best pitch may be his big 1-7 breaking curve in the mid-to-upper 70s he can use in any count. There is a mid-80s change that has flashed plenty of sink and fade, although it is still an inconsistent and raw offering. | |||||||||||
