| Summary: There is still plenty of time before the 2026 draft, but expect to hear a lot of debate about the defensive position for Shephard between now and then. Currently a shortstop, I just don’t see the arm being enough to stay there long term, or his other commonly played position of catcher. He has seen time at second during the showcase circuit and looked solid there, but there is also a chance he ends up in the outfield. At the plate is where he really shines, with a smooth stroke that is quick to but long through the zone, he is about as tough a player to strike out as any in his class. He adjusts well to the pitch and is not afraid to shoot the ball the other way if that is what the scenario/pitch dictates. When he gets a good pitch to hit, he takes advantage of the natural loft in the swing and the ball really jumps, and could develop into a solid power hitter too. | |||||||||||
