| Summary: While the future for Hammond is very likely on the bump, there are scouts out there that will pound the table that the power upside at the plate is just too great to have him pitch. He was the Home Run Derby runner up at the PBR All American Game and he really drives the ball in game too where he regularly puts up triple digit exit velos. On the mound though, he shows his middle infield athleticism in his delivery and uses his strong lower half well with a strong leg drive. There is certainly some effort in his delivery that can be herky jerky and create some real command issues, but once the ball leaves his hand it is electric stuff. He has a fastball that is 92-95 with plenty of life and some quality feel for a change that he uses quite often for a prep pitcher and it really falls off at the plate showing a ton of upside. The pitch that may have the most upside through is his sharp slider in the low 80s with plenty of cutting action before the bottom falls out and misses a ton of bats. If he makes it to campus, I expect him to see some time as a two-way guy, but in the draft, he is currently a pitching prospect for me. | |||||||||||
