| Summary: Neal was on an absolutely stacked IMG Academy roster in 2021 that included Elijah Green, Jackson Ferris, Jackson Ferris, Mason Albright, Tommy White, and James Wood. He was the starting catcher for that squad as a sophomore and reclassified that following summer to be eligible for the 2022 draft where he was selected by the Brewers in the 17th round, but went to LSU instead of signing. He was the starting catcher right from the start in Baton Rouge, before missing the second half of the year due to injury. Last year he stayed healthy and had a solid season but, somewhat surprisingly, decided to transfer and is now with Alabama. There is a lot of weight shift in the swing and he can be heavy on the back leg leading to being late at times and overall concerning bat-to-ball skills. When he does make contact, the ball jumps well as his hips really clear well in the swing, but he is more of a line drive hitter than one with big power. He has a quality arm behind the plate and is a solid defender there. The defense behind the plate may actually be his carrying tool as he currently projects as a depth catcher, but improvements offensively could really help his stock. | |||||||||||
