| Summary: Melendez will not scare anyone with his size, but his game is big. The top prospect out of Puerto Rico this year, he has plenty of international experience and isn’t intimidated by the big stage. He has impressive bat speed and feel for the barrel that allows him to make plenty of contact, and the ball really jumps especially to the pull side. His frame will naturally limit his power upside, but an above-average hit tool and average power is certainly in the cards for him. He has solid range at short but, chances are, most teams he ends up with he will not be the best defensive option at the position, meaning a move to second may be in his future. That said, he has enough arm for either position on the left side and could be a really good defender at the keystone position. Oh, and he fits in with the 2026 class better than 2025 in terms of age, as he doesn’t turn 18 until October. | |||||||||||
