| Summary: Coming out of the summer Carlson was still held up somewhat as a two way player as there were some questions about how well the bat would play. He has a fastball up to 97 and a pair of solid offspeed pitches he can command, but nobody is taking him as a pitcher anymore, as the position player profile is just too good. He might be the best defender, regardless of position, in the entire class. He has some of the softest hands you will find at the shortstop position and his knowledge of angles and elite athleticism makes him an easy plus to better defender. That 97 MPH arm more than plays in the field, and the bat has taken the necessary steps forward. He has a high hand set that coils some in his inward toe tapping load before really getting the hands through the zone well and creating plenty of bat speed. The swing is loose and free and can drive the ball when he gets his hands extended, but power will never be a calling card in his game. An elite defender with a high quality hit tool has him in consideration as a guy who could go 1-1 | |||||||||||
