| Summary: Beard will move from Florida Atlantic to Florida State where he will look to compete for the Friday night role that belonged to a fellow lefty in 2025, however a completely different arm angle. In terms of relation to the body, he comes from a high 3/4 slot, but he has a pretty heavy body lean in the delivery meaning the ball comes straight over the top. With that, he gets some quality backspin on the ball allowing it to carry especially up in the zone. His best breaking ball is his mid 70s curve with a 12-6 shape with real bite to it and flashes some depth at times. He also mixes in a slider into the upper 70 that has much more sweep and a clearly unique shape from the hammer. His best pitch though is the plus changeup that is in the mid 70s, a good 15 MPH off his low 90s fastball, with plenty of tumble. He still has room to fill out and he can struggle keeping everything in sync, leading to wavering command, but there is little doubt he projects as a starter at the next level. | |||||||||||
