Summary: If you are going purely based on his performance this summer, you will have massive concerns about the swing and miss. The whiff rate this summer definitely raised eyebrows and was cause for concern, but I don’t expect it to be as big an issue as many made it out to be. Watching him at the plate, he showed excellent zone recognition and takes his walks, even if he hates it (you could see his desire to hit while drawing walks). There is some issues currently recognizing top notch off-speed stuff, but the zone recognition points to a high potential to improve here. The bat speed is excellent and he is not afraid to drive the ball the other way plus, when he makes hard contact, he has double plus raw power. He has been into the mid-90s on the mound (he would be a quality pitching prospect if not for the elite bat potential) which plays really well at third base. Defensively he should be able to stick there without too much concern although the range and quickness aren’t elite.
