Summary: Taylor has one of the prettier swings in the draft class, with a slightly open stance and a medium sized leg kick that he gets down in plenty of time. There is some bat tilt, but the hands are in a great firing position and his path to the ball and overall bat speed is elite. Many teams played the shift against him a season ago, and he went on to beat the shift over and over, even showing an ability to drive the ball out of the ballpark the other way. I had some concerns with his pitch recognition in 2023, but he improved a season ago and I expect even more progress to be made this upcoming season. He has average speed, but is very aggressive and smart on the bases, leading to grading out more above-average than the pure times suggest. In the field, there are some concerns as he may be limited to left field. The arm isn’t enough for right, and the routes aren’t good enough for center, but I would anticipate the Hoosiers letting him get some time out there this season and a pro team making him prove he can’t play center rather than just defaulting to left. In the end, the bat will be the driver for Taylor, and it is plenty with the upside of being an excellent leadoff guy in the big leagues before too long.
