| Summary: Projection is the name of the game with Appenzeller, as he is long and skinny with plenty of room to fill out. The fastball has been up to 94, but it takes a real hit in velo when in the stretch. Given his current frame, and the fact he is a quality basketball player which take time away from the mound, seeing him more 95-97 in the future would surprise nobody. The slider is his best current pitch with a big two plane breaker that sits 80-82, and he has a decent change in the mid-80s that has shown promise. The actions are smooth and easy, with the hand dropping back behind his bottom hip and then coming up and throw a lower 3/4 slot very quickly. How he performs in the Spring will be huge as he needs to show he can hold his stuff even when in the stretch, and scouts will be itching to see the velo jump everyone is expecting. | |||||||||||
