| Summary: The ultimate high risk high reward in this draft, Schubart has insane power, but has a contact rate below 70% in college. Over the summer, with the Collegiate National Team, his patience and eye at the plate drawing 13 walks in just six games, and a third of his hits left the ballpark. He is a three true outcome batter with nearly 55% of his plate appearances so far for the Cowboys resulting in either a walk, strikeout, or home run. Let’s talk tools though, power power power. He is an imposing figure in the box and, despite already being 233 lbs., there is still projection left in the frame. He generates plenty of bat speed and will absolutely destroy a baseball down in the zone. If the ball is elevated though, he really struggles to catch up to velocity and there is a real hole in the swing there. He has enough arm for the outfield, although it is probably best suited for left, while the routes and overall range may lead to a future at first base. For a team that thinks they can shore up the holes and improve the contact rate, Schubart is an easy first round pick, but with the hit tool where it currently stands, there is a ton of risk. | |||||||||||
