| Summary: I am a sucker for a quality catcher and that is exactly what you get in Serna. Let’s start defensively, where he is a quality receiver but he is an example of one knee receiving impacting lateral mobility and his ability to stay square on balls in the dirt does haunt him at times. That said, the hands are good and the arm is special. He has been up to 94 on the mound and it shows behind the dish with one of the best arms in the class at the position and regularly showcasing game pop times of 1.90-1.95. At the plate the comps are easy as there is a ton of Gary Sanchez especially in the load. He is power over hit with impressive raw power, although the bat-to-ball skills need improving. If he can make enough consistent contact to get to his power and keeps the frame in check to be able to stick behind the plate, you are looking at a guy who could go late day one or even early day two and develop into an everyday backstop at the big league level. | |||||||||||
