| Summary: Once a seldom seen pitch among prepsters, the changeup has really been a point of emphasis for many over recent years, and Cervantes is a shining example of this. He tunnels it really well off his fastball with a ton of late fade and dip, hitters rarely sniff contact with the pitch. This helps his fastball, which sits in the low 90s, really play up and grades out much better than pure metrics would suggest. He has a curve that is somewhere between 12-6 and 1-7 shape and a slider with more depth. Both breaking balls are average offerings, but they are definitely distinct pitches from one another despite much of a difference in velo. On top of the stuff, he has plenty of pitchability and pounds the strike zone. There is some limit on the upside given he only has one pitch that is above-average, but he has an extremely high floor for a prep righty. | |||||||||||
