| Summary: Lombard comes from a talented baseball family as his brother is a top prospect in the New York Yankees organization, George Lombard Jr., while his dad, George Lombard Sr., is the bench coach for the Detroit Tigers. Neither of those teams will likely have a chance at getting Jacob in 2026 as he is a name who will certainly garner attention as a potential 1-1 candidate. He has a good approach and gets on base at a high clip as he rarely expands the zone. He has a slightly open stance with good balance and will use the whole field. He can take big hacks when the situation is right, and the plus raw power allows him to drive the ball, although above average game power is probably where he will cap out on that tool. The pure contact rates are not the best, and he will swing and miss, leaving some questions on the hit tool and further contributing to the gap between raw and game power grades. He is an excellent athlete who has double plus speed which he showed at PG National when he clocked in at 6.11 for the 60 and has the potential to be a plus defender at short. He has smooth feet and hands which help allow him to get the ball from the glove to throw as well as anyone in the class. | |||||||||||
